LITERATURE: ANALYSIS DRAMA (A MARRIAGE PROPOSAL)

Plot is the story line.  Plot has elements; they are exposition, conflict, crisis, climax, and resolution.

Exposition is the setting scene, the characters, and any background information that will be essential to knowing what is going on in the story and or the main situation that leads to the conflict.  Exposition in a marriage proposal drama is in reception room in Tschubukov’s country home.

Conflict is main problem of a story exists when a struggle with an oncoming hurricane that is threatening to destroy his/her entire town.  There are two conflicts in a marriage proposal drama. The first, Lomov and Natalia have different argument about meadow which bounded their house (What nonsense! The weadows belong to us, not you). Climax is the point of highest interest or suspense in the story. And the climax in a marriage proposal drama is they were insulting their family, said rudely and Natalia chased away Lomov, and also Tschubukov hated Lomov (Your grandmother was a dipsomaniac, and the younger aunt, Nataia Michailovna, ran off with an architect). Until Lomov goes from Natalia’s house. When Natalia knows that Lomov comes there to make her proposal marriage.

Falling action is that part of the story in which the main part (the climax) has finished and you're heading to the conclusion. In this drama has falling action that Natalia has defeatist attitude and tells that the meadow belong to Lomov (the meadows belong to you).

Resolution is the moment of reversal after the climax, the conflict between the protagonist and the antagonist unravels, with the protagonist winning or losing against the antagonist. Resolution in this drama include to Dénouement. Because a marriage proposal has happy ending in the story that Natalia is allowed to get married with Lomov.

Character is often revealed through his or her actions, which provide readers with clues about the character’s personality, motives, and expectations.  The characters and characterization in a marriage proposal are Stepan Stepanovitch Tschubukov is Natalia’s father.  He was 70 years old.  He was a country farmer. He was egoist.  He was Lomov’s neighboard.  He has a dog.  It was name Otkatai. Natalia Stepanovna is beautiful girl.  She was Tschubukov’s daughter.  Likely, she was his single child.  She was 25 years old.  She was a farmer.  She was egoist as his father.  Her mother was died. She was an excellent housekeeper.  She has not got married.  She was Lomov’s neighboard.  Ivan Vassiliyitch Lomov is Tschubukov’s neighbor.  He was 35 years old.  He was a farmer, who needs money.  He has a dog.  It was name Ugadi.  He was a weak-heart. He was sensitive men.  His speech beat about the bush.

The Flat in this drama in a marriage proposal are Stepan Stepanovitch Tschubukov and Natalia Stepanovna. The Round is Ivan Vassiliyitch Lomov.

The protagonists in this drama in a marriage proposal are Ivan Vassiliyitch Lomov and Natalia Stepanovna, but Natalia in the beginning of story was antagonist. The antagonists are Natalia Stepanovna and Stepan Stepanovitch Tschubukov.

 Language is naturally a significant part of drama’s composition.  As in literature, it reflects the social circumstances of characters as well as their abilities or limitations dealing with the world.  This drama a marriage proposal use literal language and low language.  It can be seen in the dialog that was easy to understand. And it use such as a daily conversation, not use formal language.

Setting is the background in which the story takes place.  Several aspects in setting, there are place and time.  Place is the geographical location of the story takes place.  In a marriage proposal was taking in reception room in Tschubukov’s country home, Russia.  It shows from the scene in this dialogue.

            Genre drama follows certain formulaic conventions, such as conforming to certain patterns of structuring stories and creating heroes, heroines and villains.  Genre of drama include to tragedy, comedy, tragic comedy, melodrama and historical. Comedy divides to satire, parody, romantic comedy, and farce.
